The Mayfield Heights City Council voted unanimously June 23 to accept a state grant to purchase intersection cameras and license-plate readers for the police department.
Law Director Schmidlin presented Resolution 2025-32, which authorizes the mayor to accept the state grant. Schmidlin noted that Chief Meeley had circulated a memo to council about the grant ahead of the meeting. "Everyone received the memo from Chief Meeley regarding the grant," Schmidlin said as the resolution was read into the record.
Council members suspended the rules to vote on the measure the same night; the motion to suspend the rules passed on a roll call and the final vote to adopt the resolution was unanimous. Councilmember Cebeda moved to approve the resolution; Councilmember Manno seconded the motion.
Council members and staff emphasized that the grant covers equipment purchase but does not cover the electrical work needed for camera installation. Schmidlin and staff repeated that the city would need to budget separately for the power and mounting infrastructure required to activate the devices.
The grant acceptance lets the police department move forward with procurement; the council did not adopt any separate appropriation to pay the electrical installation costs in the same vote.
