The School Board of Volusia County approved a package of administrative appointments and transfers at its June 24 meeting, confirming a group of hires recommended by Superintendent Dr. Carmen Balgobin.
Superintendent Balgobin introduced ten appointments and called each appointee forward for brief remarks and a photo. Among the positions approved were: Andrew Langenbach as ESE ADA compliance attorney (effective 07/07/2025); LaShawn Ross Porterfield as director of strategic academic operations in the division of teaching, leading and learning (effective 07/01/2025); Patricia Smith as coordinator for planning and business services (effective 06/25/2025); Logan Whitmore as coordinator for exceptional student education (effective 07/01/2025); and multiple assistant principal and administrative dean reassignments at area high schools and middle schools (effective dates ranged from 07/01/2025 to 07/21/2025 as announced during the meeting).
Appointees thanked the board and named mentors and family members. Andrew Langenbach told the board he was "very excited to be able to come along and serve the organization that supports those people who work on the front line," and several appointees described prior work in district and regional leadership roles. Board votes on each individual appointment were taken, and the chair announced the approvals were unanimous.
What comes next: Human resources will complete onboarding steps and the district will post pictures and notifications of the reassignments. Effective dates provided at the meeting will guide payroll and transition planning.
