The board approved the Educare after‑school contract and authorized staff to apply for funding through the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) supplemental and concentrated grants to sustain after‑school services and ACE initiative supports.
Staff described the Educare program as an in‑house after‑school provider that also helps with social‑emotional learning during the school day by pushing into classrooms and supporting intervention programs. Staff said Educare and the in‑house after‑school program have supported 12th‑grade activities, senior events and ninth‑grade transition supports. The district’s participation in the program, staff said, helps keep additional adults on campus who contribute to lunch‑time and elective‑seminar activities and provide wraparound supports for students at risk.
Staff told the board that the program’s continuation depends on securing a fall LCFF supplemental/concentrated grant; if the grant is not awarded, staff said the program could see cuts. Educare has agreed to have its grant writer assist the district with the application; staff noted past applications were unsuccessful and that a recent rise in a qualifying metric (described as the district’s “percent reduced” moving from under 90% to 91%) could improve competitiveness for some funding streams.
A motion to approve the Educare contract and authorize grant application submission carried; board members voted in favor. Staff will proceed with the grant application and report back on award status and any programmatic adjustments required if funds are not received.
