Arlington City Council workshop — City Maintenance & Operations staff reviewed staffing levels, seasonal work and several capital and maintenance projects ahead of the holiday season.
"Of our 14 staff, we have all 14 positions fulfilled full time," M&O staff Josh reported, adding that three employees are returning from leave and seasonal positions are filled for the summer.
Josh described work completed and planned: targeted roadside mowing and a difficult cleanup on 172nd completed after early-morning lane closures; an emergency road closure on Burnhill Road in May to remove a fallen tree; coordination with the property owner and WSDOT on right-of-way issues; City Hall roof cleaning and a new 20-year coating; new HVAC work pending equipment; completion of salt/sand bays to extend storage capacity from roughly one year to two years; and ongoing work to replace aging splash-pad toys next year.
The splash pad passed Snohomish County health-district inspection and the city added tables and umbrellas after citizen requests. Josh said Smoky Point Park has been "very positive, environment" and that staff will add directional lighting around play equipment to balance safety and neighborhood impacts.
Airport-related maintenance included drone-supported identification and cleanup of an illegal camp and coordination with police for signage and removal; this work preceded airport tenant site improvements. Work orders were consistent with prior years (304 internal staff work orders at the time of the report), and external requests were trending as expected.
No council action was taken; the report was informational and staff will continue project work and return with contract or procurement items as needed.
