Palm Springs Unified reports 'met' on state local indicators, adopts district and Cielo Vista LCAPs; highlights chronic absenteeism

Palm Springs Unified School District officials presented their annual local-indicator report for 2024–25 at the June 24 board meeting and told trustees the district met state requirements across the required local-priority areas.
"Palm Springs Unified has never been anything other than met," said the district’s director of state and federal programs, who presented the local indicators and described the process the district uses to evaluate items not captured in state data collection. The local indicators measure areas such as facilities and materials, implementation of state academic standards, family engagement, school climate and access to a broad course of study.
The district reported full implementation or sustainable systems across most priority areas. Officials highlighted continued progress in family engagement and climate measures — noting multi-point gains in school safety and connectedness on the district’s Panorama climate survey — and said curriculum materials and professional learning systems are in place across grade spans.
District staff also identified persistent challenges. The report singled out chronic absenteeism as a primary barrier that reduces students’ access to academic supports and social-emotional services. "Chronic absenteeism continues to be one of our largest barriers," the director said, and staff described ongoing work to strengthen multi-tiered systems of supports (MTSS), counseling services and school-based interventions to improve attendance and access.
Cielo Vista Charter School principal Juanita Parashtica presented site-specific indicators for her school, reporting exemplary results in several areas: 100 percent of students had standards-aligned materials at school and at home, the school had no Williams complaints and a May 2024 visit returned an exemplary rating. Parashtica said two teachers — in art and physical education — were completing preliminary credentials and that Cielo Vista is expanding course access, including new CTE options.
Later in the meeting the board approved both the district LCAP and the Cielo Vista Charter School LCAP (agenda items 15n and 15o). District staff said they will upload the local-indicator information to the California School Dashboard as required; the state dashboard update is expected in November.
No regulatory findings or corrective actions were reported in the local-indicator presentation; staff said the district would return with any additional state reports when those data sets are published.
