Board adopts updated instructional continuity plan aligned with safe-school plans

The Hueneme Elementary School District governing board approved an updated district Instructional Continuity Plan (ICP) that staff said must be integrated into each school's site safety plan in response to recent state legislation.
Staff explained that the updated plan incorporates lessons learned during the pandemic and clarifies protocols for engaging families, ensuring equity and access to instructional materials and devices, and resuming in-person or remote instruction as needed. The presenter said the updates align the ICP with changes to state requirements under recent legislation and that every school's ICP will be included within its safe-school plan.
"Back in 2021, all districts were required to have a plan in place for if you were to shut down. The new part is that the new bill makes it so that it has to be integrated into your safe school plan," a district staff member said. The item was approved by motion and roll-call vote.
Staff said the plan is intended to ensure instructional access during natural disasters or other emergencies and includes measures such as device redistribution and maintaining robust online platforms; additional adjustments will be made as the state issues any further guidance.
