At the June 23 meeting, Councilman Hartstein moved to suspend rules and place Resolution 2025‑10 on final reading; after debate the council voted on adoption and the resolution failed. Police leadership and several council members said the county plan requires municipalities to staff two dispatchers at all times — a standard the chief described as unique among Ohio counties — and that the county’s approach represents an intrusion on home rule and could impose additional costs.
Several council members and the police chief said nearby Eastlake had already voted no because of similar concerns. The resolution’s failure means Wickliffe will not accept the Lake County NextGen 911 staffing plan at this time; council members requested additional information before reconsidering any county plan.
