Trustee Chiang reported June 23 that a resident, identified in the meeting as Arty Van Buren, will donate and pay for a 60-foot flagpole to be erected at Fireman's Park and that Manmade Plumbing’s Clint Mandy has offered to donate a book box to the police department.
Chiang said the village’s responsibility will be to designate and oversee the flagpole location — described as between the south end of the big 6 building and north of the stage — and to locate underground structures for the installation. Arty Van Buren will purchase and install required materials, install the base and concrete, and accept future maintenance responsibilities including repair of top rollers and the spool mechanism and purchase of flags as necessary, Chiang said.
On the book box, Chiang said the donor is meeting the village staff to determine the final mounting location in front of the police department; the village will monitor whether the outdoor installation is used and may move it indoors if weatherization or low use becomes an issue.
Chiang said construction of the flagpole was expected to begin the day after the meeting and the book box installation would follow shortly after the donor and staff finalize the site.
