Mayor Mark Messer on June 24 presented a proclamation honoring the Lebanon varsity softball team for winning the Ohio Division 1 state championship and recognizing Coach Brian Kendall’s 500th career win.
The proclamation, read aloud at council, recorded the team’s 28–4 overall record, noted a 2–0 semifinal win over Lancaster in nine innings and a 3–1 victory over Centerville in the state final, and listed players and coaches included in the recognition. The proclamation also thanked Athletic Director Keith Pantling, the Lebanon High School Athletic Department, the Lebanon Board of Education and the Lebanon Athletic Boosters for supporting the team’s travel and accommodations.
Coach Brian Kendall, who accepted the recognition, said the season fulfilled a long-term program goal and praised the players and assistant coaches for their dedication. Mayor Messer invited the players and coaches forward for a group photo and declared June as “Lebanon Lady Warriors Softball State Championship Day.” Councilmembers and attendees offered congratulations at the dais.
No formal council action was required for the proclamation; it was a ceremonial recognition recorded in the meeting minutes.
