Sheriff's office adds grant-funded safety lights and donor-funded training to budget

Dunn County's Judicial and Law Committee approved a budget adjustment that the sheriff said will allow purchase of personal safety lighting for deputies and fund a training course for law enforcement wellness.
The sheriff told the committee the county received a $3,000 grant from Wisconsin County Mutual Insurance to buy a "Guardian Angel" style personal safety light for patrol staff, and a $7,000 check from the Community Foundation designated for BreachPoint training. "It was for the BreachPoint training that, she and I had talked about," the sheriff said, referring to a discussion with a Community Foundation representative and an anonymous donor.
The sheriff described BreachPoint as a one‑ or two‑day seminar focused on officer wellness and perspective on work–life balance; he said he has used the training previously and wanted to offer it to patrol, corrections and 911 staff. The Community Foundation donation arrived with a check and a letter explaining the donor's intent, the sheriff said.
Committee member Jetson moved to approve the sheriff's budget adjustment and Gilbert seconded; the motion passed by voice vote. The sheriff said the money will be used to buy the safety lights and to contract with the BreachPoint trainer, Kent Williams, to deliver sessions to county staff and partner agencies as budgeted.
