Village hires contractor to install valve at Beecher Manor; well pump rehab nearing EPA approval

The Village Board of Beecher was updated June 23 on two water-infrastructure projects: the village hired M and J Underground to install an insertion valve serving Beecher Manor, and a separate well rehab and new pump project entered final EPA testing with service expected to resume within days.
Trustee Geiger said the insertion valve was needed so Beecher Manor could turn off water inside the building to complete interior mainline valve work. Geiger said the mainline valve along Dixie Highway is inoperable and replacing it would have required shutting down a portion of Dixie Highway, including nearby businesses, so the village contracted M and J Underground for the insertion valve instead.
Geiger told trustees the insertion valve will “give us a definitive area of what’s their responsibility versus what’s ours,” and that future redesign work will aim to remove the old ductile iron feed coming off Dixie Highway.
Separately, staff reported that a rehabilitation project and new pump have been installed on a village well. Officials said they ran 50,000 to 100,000 gallons through the system during testing and that EPA testing will be completed the following day; if the test passes, the well should be back online by Thursday.
Geiger said invoices related to the insertion-valve work will be presented to the board in the coming weeks.
