The city’s IT director presented an annual report for FY24-25 outlining infrastructure upgrades, cybersecurity training, device inventories and upcoming projects, and requested an additional staff position in the FY25-26 budget.
The director said the department manages servers, firewalls, workstations, printers, network switches, security cameras, mobile devices, website and social media accounts; last year the department installed security cameras at various parks and increased bandwidth with a second fiber path. Staff reported an annual IT budget of $445,473 with about 46% allocated to maintenance, services and supplies.
Other highlights included deployment of state-mandated cybersecurity awareness training tools, migration of Windows 10 PCs and servers to Windows 11, replacement of end-of-life hardware, and planned FY25-26 projects such as a city website redesign, VoIP phone implementation and additional security cameras at the Jerner Field Complex. The director asked the council to consider a one-position increase to address workload as technology demands grow.
Council asked technical clarification questions about network connectivity to off-site locations and the director said some remote sites currently rely on wireless connections while structured fiber work is underway by a third-party provider. No formal budget vote was taken at the meeting.
