Committee approves partnership with grant partners for summer safety tips campaign

The Miami Lakes Public Safety Committee voted to partner with grant-backed organizations and Main Street merchants on a "Summer Safety Tips" campaign that will appear in the Miami Laker, on social media and in merchant outlets.
The campaign will cover several topics committee members identified as local priorities: trespassing on private property, safe use of e‑bikes and similar wheeled devices (including helmet use for riders 16 and under per state guidance), water safety and neighborhood watch reporting. The materials will include links to Miami‑Dade County resources and to local police/public-safety contacts for complaints and watch order requests.
Committee members said the flyer is a joint design that communications will polish; the chair noted the draft text is intentionally general because private property rules and merchant curfews vary. "Businesses and residential properties are private properties," the chair said while explaining the trespass box on the draft flyer. The committee also discussed enforcement pathways and asked deputies to serve as a contact point for legal questions.
Members approved the motion to accept the partnership subject to committee changes and directed communications to prepare a full-page print layout, social media assets and a digital format for town distribution. They also asked staff to return with final copy by the July 31 deadline so communications can meet printing schedules.
The presenter noted neighborhood-improvement funds had approved flotation devices (life rings) for several lakes, and the committee discussed aligning the summer safety outreach with an upcoming September bike-rodeo safety event sponsored by the county task force.
