The Miami Lakes Public Safety Committee voted to place a 1/3-page black-and-white advertisement promoting the "Lock it or Lose it" campaign in the Miami Laker newspaper’s July 18 issue for $385.
Committee members reviewed available ad sizes and pricing after learning the previous small business-card-sized ad had missed the newspaper deadline. The chair summarized the available sizes and the committee concluded a 1/3-page black-and-white ad would provide broader exposure than multiple smaller insertions. "If you go 1/3 of a size and keep it at black and white, it's $385," a committee member said during the motion discussion.
A motion to purchase a 1/3-page, black-and-white ad for the July 18 issue passed after discussion about publishing deadlines, resizing artwork and whether to include a specific lock-up time. Members agreed not to include a lock time on the ad and to use communications to resize the committee's existing artwork to the paper’s 1/3-page dimensions.
The committee asked town communications to prepare the artwork, obtain sponsor logos as needed, and work with the Miami Laker to draft a new contract for the ad insertion. Committee members also discussed the tradeoff between multiple small insertions and a single larger insertion and noted summer readership patterns.
Motion language approved at the meeting directed staff to draft the contract with Miami Laker, resize the artwork to the 1/3-page format and place the ad for the July 18 publication date.
