Council introduces Wheeler Landing PUD amendment for planned police headquarters; moves to APC for public hearing

The Westfield Common Council held first reading on an amendment to the Wheeler Landing Planned Unit Development that would incorporate development-specific architectural elevations and monument-sign exhibits for the area planned for the City of Westfield’s new police department headquarters.
Ryan Collingwood of the Community Development Department briefed the council on the amendment, saying the subject parcel is about 11.7 acres west of Grand Park Boulevard and roughly 1,000 feet north of the intersection of 181st Street and Grand Park Boulevard. Collingwood said the amendment is specific to the headquarters site and is being introduced to the council for first reading; it is scheduled for a public hearing before the Advisory Plan Commission in July.
Representatives of the petitioner — Collingwood identified Veritas Advisors and Dubery Architects as the petitioner team — were present for first reading. City staff and the petitioner indicated they were available for questions, but the council did not hold a public hearing during the meeting and took no action beyond first reading.
Collingwood said the Wheeler Landing PUD was originally established by ordinance 18‑O‑4 in 2018 and that the amendment is limited to architectural and sign-character exhibits for the police headquarters site. The council expects the item to return following APC review.
