City Manager Tracy Leech told the Coppell City Council on June 24 that the city mailed breach notification letters to individuals whose records were compromised in an October cybersecurity event and outlined assistance options for recipients.
Leech said letters began arriving last week and that notices are sent to the addresses shown in the compromised documents even if the person no longer lives in Coppell. “We are legally required to send the notice to the address and information listed in the compromised documents for the individuals for whom personal identifiable information or personal health information was obtained,” she said. Leech apologized for the stress the letters have caused some residents and explained the city’s response steps.
Affected individuals may call the call center at (877) 580‑7778 and use the unique code printed on their letter to reach a fraud specialist, Leech said. Residents who want to speak to a city representative may call Justin Vaughn at (972) 304‑3611. The city has posted a FAQ and more information at coppelltx.gov/outage.
Leech said the notices outline the actions the city took to mitigate the breach and describe how affected persons can enroll in free credit monitoring. She reiterated the city’s apology for the incident and told the council staff will continue outreach to affected residents.
No council action was taken; the report was informational and part of the city manager’s report.
