School board approves two administrator appointments at New Albany High School

The New Albany-Floyd County Schools Board approved two administrative appointments for New Albany High School at its June 23 meeting.

Superintendent Dr. Madison presented a recommendation to name Amy Miller as assistant principal. The board moved and seconded the appointment; recorded votes show Mrs. Weishardt, Mrs. Carruthers, Mrs. Ball, Mr. Nafis, Mrs. Northup and Mrs. Gardiner voting “aye.” The motion passed with six board members voting in favor and one member recorded absent.

The board then approved Samantha Pitts as dean of students at New Albany High School. The same six members voted “aye,” and the motion passed by the same margin.

Board members and district staff praised both appointees for their experience. Dr. Jenkins highlighted Miller’s work as a dean, athletic director duties, and involvement with special education and PBIS. Miller (recorded in the meeting as both “Amy Miller” and once in the motion as “Emmy Miller”) spoke briefly, thanked colleagues and family, and said she looked forward to continuing work with students and staff. Pitts also addressed the board and thanked members for the opportunity.

Both appointments were placed on the consent/action agenda and recorded as formal board actions. No salary or contract details were disclosed in the meeting.

The board did not indicate additional follow-up actions tied to these approvals at the meeting.
