Alpharetta arts center reports strong summer programming, Spotlight Theater opens to positive public response

City arts center staff told the Alpharetta Cultural Arts Commission that summer programming is expanding, the new Spotlight Theater has opened with positive public response, and multiple community exhibits and events have taken place.

Megan, arts center supervisor, said the center is in week five of summer camps and staff are “bigger and better than ever.” She reported that, outside of summer camps, the ceramics program has added more capacity and that the center enrolled more than 120 additional students in ceramics compared with the previous year. The center is booking the new Spotlight Theater for performances and rentals and is adding configuration specifications for both theater seating and table rounds to accommodate daytime speakers and rentals.

Staff highlighted recent events: a Paint the Town event that drew 68 artists and sales receptions, a Spotlight Theater grand opening with a comedian and music that drew a full house, Juneteenth programming hosted by a community group that rented the center, and a youth exhibit featuring student work. Staff also described a community documentary screening produced with local partners that drew alumni and community members; staff said a screening will be shared online in the coming weeks and that the City of Roswell has invited the documentary for a festival showing.

Staff said monthly free workshops are offered by the Georgia Nature Photographers Association and that AlphaLoop signage and QR‑enabled maps are being added at trail locations to help users orient themselves. Commissioner feedback praised staff for the busy season and the accessibility of the new theater space. One commissioner announced a fall health and wellness expo walk on the AlphaLoop to benefit local charities and the AlphaLoop Foundation on Oct. 5.

Staff asked commissioners to help publicize programming and to continue to share feedback as bookings grow.
