Commission approves Arts and Culture Master Plan for council review

The Alpharetta Cultural Arts Commission voted unanimously to approve the proposed City of Alpharetta Arts and Culture Master Plan and directed staff to forward the plan to the City Council for workshop review and possible adoption.
Kim, a city cultural services staff member, told the commission the plan — developed by consultant team TSW — was created through community engagement from February 2024 through May 2025 and contains strategies to celebrate community character, support economic development, and expand cultural programming. Kim said the feedback from commissioners had been “minor modifications” limited to clarifications and minor text edits, not conceptual changes.
Staff recommended forwarding the plan to a council workshop tentatively scheduled for July 14 and, if placed on the council calendar, a council meeting for final consideration on July 28. Kim said staff would submit the minor edits to the consultant and keep commissioners informed about scheduling and public review. The commission’s motion to approve the plan moved it to the next step in the city review process.
The commission’s vote does not itself adopt the plan citywide; final approval rests with the City Council. Commissioners asked about timing and staff said the schedule depends on council availability and other agenda items. The commission will receive updates from staff as the item moves to the council process.
