The Homewood City Council on June 23 approved a request to use the right of way and sidewalk in front of Track Shack for a filming production after the applicant confirmed the location had been reviewed through Film Birmingham and provided insurance naming the city as beneficiary.
Councilor Sims reported the special issues committee had voted 3-2 to recommend approval; he said new information received after the committee meeting — that Film Birmingham had approved the location and that the production carries insurance naming the City of Homewood — changed his view and led him to support the request on the council floor. He told the council that he had not received negative feedback from neighbors when he checked with them.
Councilors discussed the procedure and insurance assurances; councilors said the insurance would protect the city from liability should damage occur. The council approved the request 10-0.
