SALT LAKE CITY — A committee of the Utah State Board of Education on Oct. 11 approved a package of instructional materials for child abuse and human trafficking prevention and forwarded the items to the full board for final consideration, while asking several publishers to fix specific slides and improve access for reviewers.
Committee members said the materials underwent the board'approved review process and that most packages met the minimum guidelines, but several reviewers and board members raised concerns about ease of access for reviewers, age-appropriate wording, and specific slide content that they said could conflict with state law or with the committee''s guidance.
The committee voted to forward multiple materials to the full board, including material ID 19792 (Enough: Preventing Child Abuse in My School), material ID 20335 (Davis School District course), and a number of packages submitted by Vector and other providers; most motions passed unanimously.
