Mayor Sherry Alcopello informed the council on June 23 that she appointed Rafael Arbelo Castillo to the Lebanon City Planning Commission to fill the unexpired term of James Farren and appointed Captain Eric Sims to the Police Pension Fund Board to fill the unexpired term of Chief Bridal Fisher.
The mayor said Rafael Arbelo Castillo, who will represent District 5 in the city's southwest, is a renewal manager at Cisco Systems with a marketing degree and an MBA from the Technological Institute of Santo Domingo. The appointment is effective June 4, 2025, and the term expires July 26, 2026. Castillo spoke briefly and thanked the mayor and council for the opportunity.
The mayor also announced Captain Eric Sims' appointment to the Police Pension Fund Board, effective June 4, 2025, with the term expiring Jan. 5, 2026. The mayor described the pension board's composition as the mayor, three city residents and three active members of the Bureau of Police; she said the appointment fills a seat until the term's expiration. These items were communications from the mayor; the transcript does not record a formal council vote on either appointment.
