Fremont County SD#2 board approves bidding and designated-facilities policy updates; other policy changes set for July review

The Fremont County School District No. 2 board approved two board policy updates and scheduled additional policy revisions for later consideration during its June meeting.

The board voted 6-0, with one absence, to approve updated bidding procedures (DJE) and a designated facilities policy (EJ) that reflects new state legislation on restroom and changing-room accommodations. “It covers everything from reasonable accommodations for, restrooms, changing rooms, sleeping quarters,” said Steve (staff member), summarizing the designated facilities policy's scope. Staff said the policy allows exceptions for emergencies or maintenance and requires that when a coach of the opposite sex is in a space with a student, an adult — not a student — must also be present.

Two other policies received first readings and will return in July. The exposure control plan (EBBA/R) — a bloodborne pathogen exposure control plan — was updated with significant changes after staff review; the staff member who worked on it will provide a redline to show revisions at the July meeting. The homeschool policy (IHBG) was revised to remove a statutory-era requirement that parents submit curriculum to the superintendent; staff said parents must still notify the district when they choose to homeschool, but the curricular-submission requirement is being removed following recent legislation.

The policy committee reviewed the recommended changes and the board will consider the exposure control plan and the homeschool policy at the July meeting after the committee finalizes redlines and staff input.
