Resident urges uniform 35 mph limit and school‑time enforcement on Hopeman Road

A Waynesboro resident asked the City Council on May 27 to standardize the speed limit on Hopeman Road and increase enforcement during school commute hours to improve safety for middle school students.
Kurt Langberg of 129 Willow Shire Court told council he was grateful for the city's response to his earlier safety concerns and urged two changes: making Hopeman Road a uniform 35 miles per hour from end to end and establishing police presence or speed enforcement during school arrival (7:30 to 8:30 a.m.) and dismissal (3 to 4 p.m.) hours. "It's a simple two‑lane road, probably doesn't need three different speed limits on it," Langberg said.
Langberg framed the request as a safety measure for middle-school children who cross the road as well as other community drivers. The mayor acknowledged the comment and earlier communications with the sheriff about the road; no formal action or vote was recorded at the meeting on the proposals.
Council did not take immediate action; Langberg's request was recorded during the citizen comment period and may be forwarded to staff or the sheriff's office for follow-up.
