Maple Heights approves six-year math curriculum purchases for K–12, totaling $698,137.84

The Maple Heights Board of Education on June 23 approved adoption and purchase agreements for new math curricula: Amplify Desmos for kindergarten through grade 5 and McGraw Hill Reveal for grades 6 through 12, with combined six-year contract costs of $698,137.84.
The superintendent recommended the adoption at the board's regular meeting; the board approved Amplify Desmos for K–5 for $439,818.60 and McGraw Hill Reveal for grades 6–12 for $258,319.24 during roll-call votes in which all voting members recorded “yes.”
District officials said the purchases follow the district’s six-year adoption cycle and a review process led by a 20-member selection committee made up of teachers, administrators and an external consultant. Director of curriculum Dr. Shay Price said the committee piloted multiple vendors, used the State of Ohio rubric for high-quality instructional materials and consolidated school-level rubrics into the recommendation package.
“I would like to always just put out there, just like with CKLA, that I did not select this. The curriculum department did not select this. It was a team,” Dr. Shay Price said, describing the committee process.
Price told the board the K–5 recommendation, Amplify Desmos, is not yet listed on the state’s elementary approved list but that the district reviewed an external, in-depth findings report and pilot results before recommending adoption. For grades 6–12, district staff said Reveal met or exceeded expectations on usability and alignment to standards during the district’s review.
The contracts cover digital subscriptions, teacher materials, manipulative and sensor kits, and professional development. District staff emphasized that pilot classrooms and teacher training would precede full implementation.
The board approved the purchases by roll call: Miss Moore, Miss Granger, Miss Cheeks and Vice President Shepherd voted yes for each adoption. The contracts run from July 2025 through June 30, 2031.
District officials said implementation details, teacher training schedules and pilot placements are available in the adoption report and will be shared with schools during the summer implementation phase.
