Council amends park impact fee ordinance to allow school exemptions and delays timing of fee reports

City Council approved on third and final reading an amendment to the Unified Development Code on June 23 that modifies the city’s park impact fee provisions. The Public Services Committee recommended approval and the council adopted a substitute dated June 18 that adds a school exemption and changes a deadline referenced in the code.
Under the substitute, a school may obtain an exemption from paying park impact fees if it enters into an agreement with the city to make its playgrounds available to the public in lieu of the fee. The amendment also strikes an August 30 reporting deadline in section 4.205(f)(1) and replaces it with September 30 to accommodate the treasurer’s schedule, the committee said.
The substitute was approved by voice vote, after which the council voted to adopt the ordinance on third reading as amended. No members of the public spoke against the change at the council meeting; no additional amendments were offered. The ordinance will take effect per the city’s normal ordinance schedule.
