Norman council adopts AIM Norman land-use and six master plans after hours of debate

The City Council voted June 24 to adopt the AIM Norman comprehensive land use plan and six supporting master plans — covering housing, water, wastewater, stormwater, transportation and parks — following more than an hour of presentations from plan co-chairs, consultants and city staff and extended public comment. The council approved the land use resolution 8-1 and passed the companion master-plan resolutions with similar margins; several plans passed unanimously.

The plan package, presented by Planning Director Jane Hudson and steering-committee co-chairs including Ingrid Giuffrida, lays out a combined approach intended to coordinate land use with water, wastewater, stormwater, transportation, housing and parks investments. “This plan represents the first time, that any city in The United States has attempted to concurrently create a comprehensive land use plan, as well as master plans for water, wastewater, storm water, transportation, housing, and parks, recreation, and culture,” co-chair Ingrid Giuffrida said during the council…
