Board authorizes county administrator to accept small Henry Schein opioid settlement share

Dickenson County supervisors authorized the county administrator to execute a settlement agreement tied to the long‑running national opioid litigation on Tuesday.

Outside counsel and the county attorney briefed the board on a proposed settlement with distributor Henry Schein. The firm’s settlement offer is structured as part of a broader global resolution and the county’s previously approved distribution framework would yield approximately $5,800 to Dickinson County from the company’s $450,000 payment.

The board voted to approve the county entering the settlement and gave the county administrator authority to execute the settlement documents on behalf of the county. The motion was moved and seconded in open session and recorded as approved by the board.

Supervisors and counsel said the county’s engagement in the litigation dated to earlier discovery and that counsel had evaluated Henry Schein’s relative liability and recovery potential before recommending acceptance of the offer.

The county administrator will sign the document and the clerk will file the executed settlement as required under the local and court processes.
