The Jackson County Finance and Audit Committee on Monday recommended perfection of Ordinance 5979, which would appropriate $198,000 from the undesignated fund balance of the County Improvement Fund to cover renovations to the Family Court Division of the 16th Judicial Circuit Court.
The committee recommended the ordinance "based on the premise that the budget's likely to pass later this afternoon and that we wouldn't do the final passage of this until such time as the budget is passed," Legislator Huskey said. Legislator Huskey then formally moved to recommend perfection, and the motion was seconded and approved by the committee.
The recommendation means the committee endorsed advancing the ordinance to the next procedural step but deferred final passage until the county's broader budget is approved. Acting Chair Donna Peyton confirmed the committee would not proceed to final action while the budget remained unsettled.
No additional staff presentations or legal citations were offered during the committee discussion. The ordinance limits the immediate budgetary action to the appropriation of the specified $198,000 from the county improvement undesignated balance and ties final implementation to the county budget process.
If the full county budget is later adopted, the ordinance would move forward to final reading and enactment under the standard legislative process.
The Finance and Audit Committee adjourned at 12:37 p.m.
