University Heights City Council authorized the mayor to enter into a contract with ARS Landscaping LLC for the 2025 yard‑abatement (nuisance) program after amending the agenda item from an ordinance to a motion and adding not‑to‑exceed amounts.
Councilmember King proposed specific pricing caps — $33 per household for high grass abatement and $33 per hour for shrub trimming, leaf cleanup and debris removal — and moved to include those caps in the motion. The motion was seconded and the council approved the contract and amended motion by roll call.
The city indicated this rebid produced lower prices than prior years. Housing and department staff confirmed the contractor had previously provided this service and will be authorized to proceed once the mayor signs the contract. Councilmembers said the change to a motion (rather than an ordinance) allowed execution this evening so crews could address properties tagged for abatement promptly.
