School board approves up-to-$250,000 piggyback HVAC services contract to speed summer maintenance

A consent-item contract to piggyback an existing University of Central Florida contract for HVAC services was approved by the Levy County School Board after a brief discussion of scope and budget.
A facilities staff member explained that the district plans to piggyback the UCF agreement to avoid weeks of bid processing and because the existing contractor can respond quickly for emergencies and summer projects. "We're asking for 250,000 for this particular contract if we need it," the staff member said.
The staff presentation said the requested authorization would cover items such as system repairs, unit installations and required materials and that the district typically includes piggyback language and background-screening requirements in these contracts. The staff member said the district expects to use the contract for short-term summer work and emergency service calls where in-house manpower is insufficient.
Board members moved and seconded the consent approval; the board voted in favor with an aye vote and the chair declared the motion carried.
The staff member said the district has budgeted $250,000 for the contract and would consider a formal bid if project costs exceeded that amount. No specific vendor-level spending beyond the $250,000 authorization was adopted at the meeting.
