‘BAM for the Mind’ presents student literary paper to board; requests distribution and donations

Brother Blanks, representing BAM for the Mind (Black Abolition Movement for the Mind), presented a student poetry and creative-writing paper to the board and described the organization’s in‑school and community programming. He asked the district to help make printed copies available to students and school libraries and provided a mailing address and phone number for donations.
Blanks told the board the program focuses on creative writing, public speaking and student voice, and that the organization has been offering services free to students and the community. He said the initiative aims to develop students’ confidence and public-speaking skills, and that BAM intends to distribute roughly 4,000 copies between the city and Cook County. “Allowing our students to be able to see their voices in print … gives them a good sense of self confidence,” he said.
Board members and attendees praised the effort and asked about library availability and distribution logistics; the presenter asked district staff to follow up with the organization regarding placement and to coordinate for local student access. Blanks also listed a mailing address (801 McAllister Avenue, Waukegan 60085) and a contact phone number (773‑510‑1713) for donations to support ongoing programming.
The board did not take action on this presentation; members thanked the presenter and asked staff to coordinate placement with school libraries and relevant departments.
