Ms. Odom opened by thanking the board for its work and described their actions as driven by care for children and educators. She praised the board for a previously passed resolution to return to "pen and paper and text book learning" and asked the board to "prayerfully consider adopting a resolution to place the Bible back in our classrooms as instructional material for our children."
She cited Jeremiah 6:16 and framed her request in moral and character-building terms: "There is no other book in the world greater for teaching our children morals and good character traits. It establishes a foundation for godly living and productive citizens in society." Ms. Odom closed by urging the board to "choose the old paths, the good way, for the sake of our children and their future."
Before public comments, staff read the board's public-comments policy and the limitations on speaking (three-minute limit and restrictions on remarks about grievances, pending employee complaints, personnel matters and campaign-related comments). Ms. Odom's remarks were within the period allowed for public comments on subjects within the board's jurisdiction; no board action on the request was taken at the meeting.
