SLPS board delays ratification of student-school transitions to July 8 after members request more data

Superintendent Dr. Barishadeh provided the packet during the meeting and said it assembled assessments, insurance claim paperwork and records of meetings with principals and outside agencies. Board members asked for more detail on the principal meetings, the thought process behind school pairings, capacity calculations and transportation arrangements.
Multiple board members asked that district leadership schedule meetings with the St. Louis teachers92 union (Local 420) and the administrators92 association and that staff provide an executive summary explaining the rationale for each proposed school pairing. Board members also requested a capacity table showing current enrollment versus receiving-school capacity and a communications plan for parents and staff.
The motion to move the item to July 8 passed on a recorded vote with all present board members voting yes. The postponement preserves the district92s current transition planning timetable while giving board members two weeks to review documents and seek stakeholder input.
Board members described concerns about student safety, transportation logistics and potential impacts on classroom capacity and instruction. Several members urged transparency, more proactive outreach to families and a presentation at the next board meeting explaining the rationale for each of the proposed reassignments. The superintendent and staff agreed to provide additional documentation and to coordinate meetings with union and administrator leaders.
No ratification or final assignment of students occurred at the June 24 session; the district maintained interim operational plans while board review continued.
