Edinburg CISD board approves several personnel appointments after closed session
Summary
Following an executive session on personnel, trustees approved the employment of Rafael Benavides as head cross-country coach at Edinburg North and approved the appointment of Andres Garcia as an assistant principal (administration recommendation). The board moved from executive session and, for the record, stated no action was taken during executive session. After the closed session, trustees considered a slate of personnel recommendations.
On a motion and second, the board approved the administration’s recommendation to employ Rafael Benavides as head cross-country coach at Edinburg North. The motion passed with board assent.
Trustees also approved the administration’s recommendation to appoint Andres Garcia as an assistant principal for the district (recorded in the meeting as "assistant principal for Red and Red North High School"). Several other personnel items — including a head volleyball coach, a migrant coordinator for federal programs, and an academic counselor for the collegiate high school — were listed as having "no recommendation at this time" and were not approved during the meeting.
The board then approved a broader set of professional appointments, reassignments, resignations and retirements as presented by administration; the meeting record shows the board voted to accept those recommendations and to proceed with the appointments "subject to assignment for the type and term of contract as identified for the position."
