Defiance City Council on June 24 approved acquisition of a 0.019-acre perpetual channel easement for the Ottawa Avenue Corridor Pedestrian Improvements Project, council members said.
Council member Mister O'Donnell explained that the city needs the permanent easement because planned drainage improvements associated with the pedestrian project could alter property drainage. "The city needs to take a 0.019 acre, perpetual channel easement. And because that's proposed permanent interest, your approval is required under section 2.12 of our charter," O'Donnell said.
Council records show the title firm West Erie Title negotiated a purchase price of $900 for the easement. The council moved to suspend rules and adopt the ordinance authorizing acquisition; the council president announced the ordinance was adopted.
The ordinance authorizes city staff to complete the purchase; no further amendments or funding breakdowns were provided on the record at the meeting.
