Dodge County jail praised in inspections; county hires night shift custodian

Dodge County officials said external reviewers praised the county jail’s condition during recent inspections, and staff reported a recent hire to fill a night-shift custodian position.

A committee member told the Building Committee that two senators who visited the jail “weren't happy with a few of the answers they got,” but commended the facility’s condition and maintenance program. The member said Immigration and Customs Enforcement inspectors also “were very happy” with the facility’s state. No specific inspection reports were presented to the committee during the meeting.

John, the facilities director, said a night-shift jail custodian resigned and the county posted the position immediately, received six applicants, interviewed five and hired one candidate who will start on June 12. "That was a fairly quick turnaround to get somebody into that position," he said. The facilities director said this hire will return the department to full staffing on that date.

No formal board action was recorded on the hire during the meeting; the facilities director described it as an operational personnel decision.
