Superintendent Dr. Bennett told the DeSoto School Board on June 24, 2025, that ground-penetrating radar (GPR) had detected anomalies at the site of the old high school and that crews will attempt to excavate the object for possible preservation.
"They think they might have found the archway in the back that was buried from the old high school," Dr. Bennett said. "They found some anomalies. You know, it could be an old John Deere from 1936. We don't know yet. But they're gonna they're gonna try to find a way to get it out. And if they can, we'd really like to take that piece and incorporate it, maybe like in a hall of fame or something in 1 of those outdoor areas."
Dr. Bennett said crews used a ground-penetrating radar unit and planned to attempt excavation the following day; he said the district would inform the public "as soon as we find out something on that." The superintendent framed the effort as a way to provide continuity between the district's historic high schools if an artifact is recovered and suitable for display.
