The Chelsea Planning Board recommended approval of a special permit to allow Bridal Variety at 469 Eastern Avenue to convert its beer‑and‑wine license to an all‑liquor license, finding no material changes to the building or operations were proposed.
Rebecca Edmonson Korrell, counsel for petitioner Surinder Sani, said the applicant applied to the state licensing commission earlier this year and now seeks a city special permit because the location is in an R‑2 residential zoned area and the full liquor license would be a change from the current nonconforming beer‑and‑wine use. “My name is Rebecca Edmonson Korrell. I'm counsel for Mr. Surinder Sani… he has applied to move from a beer and wine license to an all liquor license,” she told the board.
Surinder Sani, the store owner, said the business has operated at the site since February 2015 and that no incidents related to alcohol sales have occurred. “We've been there since 02/2015… Never been nothing. No problems at all,” Sani said. He told the board there will be no construction or change to hours; the store currently operates roughly 9:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday–Saturday and noon to 11 p.m. Sunday, and the plan is to keep the same schedule.
A board member moved to recommend the special permit; the board voted in favor with no recorded opposition. The Planning Board’s recommendation will proceed to the licensing process as required.
