DDA reports America in Bloom visit, facade grant approval and festival planning; EV charger activation pending DTE

The South Lyon Downtown Development Authority (DDA) updated council Monday on several downtown initiatives, including an America in Bloom site visit, a $10,000 facade grant approval and event planning details for summer festivals.
DDA Director Nate Mack told council that America in Bloom advisors conducted a site visit this week and will deliver recommendations on landscaping, greenery and downtown improvements. Mack and the city manager also attended an Oakland County Main Street event where the DDA and South Lyon received recognition for a recent “burger battle” partnership; Mack was recognized for 10 years of service.
At its June 12 meeting the DDA board approved a $10,000 facade grant for 134 East Lake Street (the NEDA Lehi Studio building next to the downtown theater), to be funded from the 2025–26 fiscal budget. Mack also noted the board considered a grant application that was not approved but could be reworked.
Council unanimously approved the consent agenda, which included road-closure permits and support for a series of downtown events: South Lyon Area Pumpkin Fest 2025 (including parade and live events), Pumpkin Fest Run, Buy Michigan Now Festival and Buy Michigan Now parking lot closures. The Buy Michigan Now organizer said more than 100 vendors had signed up and sponsorships were progressing.
On public EV chargers, Mack said he had not received an update from either the contractor or DTE on when the stations will be energized, although the contractor has paid DTE; the DDA will continue to follow up for a firm activation date.
Council members encouraged volunteer support for events, asked staff to notify ordinance enforcement about a neglected vacant property on Lake Street, and asked city manager to follow up on the property owner’s contact information.
