The proposed replacement is the same physical size, will sit in the existing pillars, and includes a double-sided LED messaging panel controllable from City Hall with updated fonts and messaging functionality. The project was budgeted in the 2024–25 budget under line item 101-222-972.
Staff presented three bids ranging from about $18,994 to $28,693; the lowest bid came from Signs Plus (Sarasota, Fla.) but staff recommended Image360 because the vendor is local (Southfield) and can provide closer installation and maintenance support. Council member Hanson moved to approve the purchase, seconded by Council member Kurzweil; the motion passed on roll call (Hanson: yes; Bogart: yes; Kurzweil: yes; Dibble: yes; Kennedy: yes).
Council members asked about installation timing and whether similar signage upgrades would be pursued at other parks; staff said timing would likely be this season and that other park signage would require separate bids and future council approval.
