Barrington board OKs 2025 road contract, creates motor-fuel tax fund and approves Comcast franchise

BARRINGTON, Ill. — The Village of Barrington Board of Trustees on June 23 approved a consent agenda that awarded a 2025 road-program contract, amended municipal budgets, established a separate motor fuel tax fund, authorized vendor agreements for building and IT work, approved a cable-television franchise with Comcast and an intergovernmental contribution for PACE senior handicapped bus service, and approved payment of warrants totaling $1,224,237.98.
The consent agenda included an ordinance awarding a contract to Schroeder Ash Fault Services for the 2025 road program and ordinances amending the village budget for fiscal years 2024 and 2025. The board also approved an ordinance establishing a dedicated motor fuel tax fund for the village, which President Mike Moran described as an accounting change to separate those revenues and expenses from the general fund. "This is just establishing a specific purpose fund so that all expenses associated with the motor fuel tax . . . be expended out of it as opposed to running it through the general fund," Moran said during the meeting.
Other items approved on the consent agenda were: - An approval for year 2 of the Liftoff LLC contract for professional services and licensing related to migration to Microsoft Office 365; the agenda text describes the approval as continuing an existing multi-year contract. - An agreement with Carrier Commercial Services, procured through Sourcewell contract number O808024-CAR, for upgrade, repair and possible replacement of rooftop HVAC units and split systems at the village public safety building. - A cable television franchise agreement between the Village of Barrington and Comcast of Illinois, West Virginia LLC. - An intergovernmental agreement among Barrington Township, Cuba Township and the village to provide the village's local share contribution under a PACE local share agreement for senior handicapped bus services. - Receipt and placement on file of a recommendation from the Zoning Board of Appeals regarding ZBA 25-01 for property at 600–660 South Northwest Highway.
The board approved the consent agenda by roll call. The minutes and roll-call record show the following votes: Trustees Lamar, Scholene, Duncan, Prigge and Clauer and President Moran voted "yes." Trustee Randrasik was recorded as not present. The board then approved payment of warrants in the amount of $1,224,237.98 by a roll-call vote with the same members recorded as voting "yes" and others absent as noted in the meeting record.
No substantive public-comment items or staff reports were heard on these agenda items at the June 23 meeting. The board recessed without scheduling a closed session; its next regular meeting is set for July 14, 2025, at 7:30 p.m.
