East Bridgewater school committee: schematic design approved with MSBA, project on track for 2028 opening

The East Bridgewater School Committee heard an update June 18 on the district’s school building project and was told the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) has verified the district’s schematic design for a pre-K–2 school.
Assistant Superintendent Mrs. McPartland told members the MSBA-approved schematic confirms the new building will be a pre-K to grade 2 facility, with K–2 enrollment modeled at 510 students. She said current K–2 enrollment is “just shy of 400” and the district has about 120 preschool students; MSBA does not factor preschool enrollment into its enrollment counts. The Committee is working on a finalized schematic design to submit in August, with an outreach window from August through November to share design plans and estimated costs before town meeting and any funding election.
“We are almost at the halfway point, with ... submitting our finalized schematic design in August,” Mrs. McPartland said. She described ongoing community outreach — three forums (two in-person, one virtual) and attendance at local events — and noted postcard and website materials with QR codes for schedules, agendas and design plans.
Committee members discussed outreach and attendance at public events and were told the building committee has 16 members; with Mr. McKinnon no longer on the school committee but remaining on the building committee as a community member, Mr. Peaker is currently the only school committee representative on the building committee. Mrs. McPartland said the committee could consider appointing a second school committee member to the building committee.
She described a planning timeline that, if all approvals and funding proceed, would include a bidding phase and roughly 18–20 months of construction with an opening target of September 2028.
No formal vote was required on the update; the committee requested continued outreach and updates as the schematic and cost estimates are finalized.
