Council approves purchases of gas and fire equipment totaling up to $26,200

The Athens City Council on June 23 approved two capital purchases: 50 Fire Stick rods from Vermeer Southeast at a cost not to exceed $22,200 (included in the gas department’s fiscal 2025 capital budget) and twelve 50-foot sections of 1-3/4-inch attack hose from Sunbelt Fire at a cost not to exceed $4,000 (to be funded from the fire department’s capital budget).
Both items were adopted by roll call votes with all council members voting yes. Staff noted the gas-department purchase amount was included in the department’s FY2025 capital budget and the hose purchase will be funded from the fire department’s existing capital budget.
No amendments or conditions were recorded on the council floor; implementation will follow standard procurement and delivery processes through the respective departments.
