The House Transportation Committee on an uncontested voice vote reported Senate Bill 78, which would designate a bridge in Banks Township, Indiana County, as the Private First Class John Tabaxco Memorial Bridge and require the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation to erect and maintain signs in both directions.
Kyle, staff summarizing the bill, said, "Senate bill 78 by senator Joe Pittman. This bill designates a bridge in Banks Township, Indiana County as the private first class John Tabaxco Memorial Bridge. PFC Tabaxco was a native of Banks Township who served in the United States Army during World War 2 and died in action in The Philippines on Luzon Island. PennDOT must direct and maintain appropriate signs displaying the name of the bridge to traffic in both directions on the bridge. This bill passed the senate by a vote of 49 to 0 on March 24, and there are no amendments filed to the bill."
The committee chair asked members to support the bill and noted the measure would serve as a vehicle for multiple road and bridge designations agreed to by the transportation committee chairs. With no recorded negative votes, the committee reported the bill as committed. The summary provided that the measure had previously passed the state Senate 49-0 on March 24.
The bill’s provisions in the committee statement are limited to the name designation and a requirement that PennDOT post and maintain signage; no amendments were filed during the committee hearing.
