Supervisors adopt FY26 appropriation resolution and approve interfund transfers

The Story County Board of Supervisors voted June 24 to adopt Resolution 25-95, an appropriation resolution for fiscal year 2026, and Resolution 25-96, authorizing interfund operating transfers.
County staff explained that for FY26 they chose to appropriate 100% of the budgeted amounts now rather than adopting a 50/50 split between fiscal years. "This year, I went ahead and put a 100% in the appropriations as opposed to doing 50% now and 50% later," a staff member identified as Lisa said, adding that several budget amendments will come to the board in about a month.
On the interfund transfers, staff said Resolution 25-96 lists maximum transfer amounts so the county can move funds when necessary but is not required to transfer the full listed amounts. "It does say that the maximum transfer is listed here, so that when the dollars are needed, we can transfer them," Lisa said.
Formal action: Supervisors moved and seconded approval of both resolutions. Votes were recorded as "aye" by Supervisors Merkin, Basil and Heddens; both resolutions passed.
Why it matters: Adopting the appropriation resolution establishes authorized spending levels for the coming fiscal year; the interfund transfers provide administrative flexibility to move budgeted dollars between funds up to stated maximums. Staff noted forthcoming amendments that will adjust appropriations further.
Next steps: Staff will bring the listed amendments to the board in approximately one month as described during the meeting.
