The Sparta Area School District board approved the consent agenda by roll call vote, 6-0 with one member absent, and in doing so confirmed an item that included raising school meal prices for the 2025–26 school year.
Ms. Lopez, a board member, moved to approve the consent agenda after the board chair said there was no public comment on the meal-price increase. “Hearing nothing from the community regarding the meal prices going up for the 2526 school year. I move to approve the consent agenda as presented,” Ms. Lopez said. Mr. Burns Gilbert seconded the motion.
The board clerk, Wendy, conducted a roll call. The people recorded as voting yes in the exchange were Mr. Burns Gilbert, Mr. Donkey, Mr. Wells, Mrs. Lopez, Dr. Burnett and Miss Ference. The meeting record shows the motion passed: 6 yes, 0 no, 1 absent.
During the grants and donations item, district staff noted there were no donations or grants over $1,000 requiring board action and thanked local donors. Sam, a district staff member, said, “No action. This time we don't have anything over a thousand dollars. So just information. A special thanks to Culver's, for, the backpack program.” Sam also thanked a local hardware store “for their donation of paint, to the high school as well for our class.”
The meeting concluded with a motion to adjourn by Mr. Gonkey, seconded by Mr. Burnett; the board said the motion passed.
The board did not take separate votes solely on meal prices during the meeting; the increase was part of the consent agenda approved by the roll call.
