Sparta Area School District staff reported continued design work on Sparta High School’s facilities project and said they will meet this week with a civil engineer and project partners to evaluate site-level options for the track, baseball and soccer fields.
Sam, a district staff member, told the board the district is coordinating with consultants and partners and is preparing for a near-term design deadline. “On Wednesday, I'm meeting with Point of Beginning, our civil engineer and surveyor, along with Bray, to discuss a possible idea of the levels at SHS with the track, baseball, soccer, and trying to see if there's other alternatives with that,” Sam said.
Sam said the district is continuing work with its design team—named in the meeting as Bray, Market and Johnson—and will receive another budget update from Market and Johnson. “July 18 is when our next big deadline is when we're looking at design and development,” Sam said, adding the district will continue stakeholder outreach and focus groups as the design work proceeds.
The discussion was informational: no vote or formal direction was recorded during the item. The board did not adopt design decisions at the meeting, and Sam characterized the current phase as working through options and gathering feedback.
Next steps identified in the meeting include the staff meeting with Point of Beginning and the design team to review site elevations and alternatives, continuing stakeholder engagement and preparing a budget update from Market and Johnson for a future board report.
