Commission approves gate petition, restricts public access to part of Renner Road

The Miami County Board of County Commissioners approved a petition and resolution June 11 restricting public access to a minimum maintenance section of Renner Road and authorized landowners to install a gate.
Eric Sandberg of Road and Bridge described the petition: property owners asked to gate approximately 1,500 feet of Renner Road south of 370 Fifth Street because unauthorized users were driving onto the minimum‑maintenance section and leaving trash. "They are requesting to gate that section there. They supply the gate. The county has access down in there as well and all landowners have access through that section as well," Sandberg said.
Commissioner Vickery moved to approve the petition and Commissioner Scruggs seconded; the motion passed unanimously. The commission then approved a resolution to restrict public access to the same portion of road and directed staff to publish the resolution in the county newspaper, work with property owners on gate installation, and post signs referring to the resolution.
The county retained access rights for official use; property owners will pay for the gate and locks.
