Commission authorizes staff to sign letter committing county to new ambulance purchase

The Miami County Board of County Commissioners authorized staff June 11 to sign a letter of commitment with Lifeline Emergency Vehicles to purchase a new ambulance, with expected delivery in the last quarter of 2027.
Frank Burrow, chief of EMS, outlined fleet needs after recent accidents reduced available units. He said the department is using ARPA carryover funds combined with the planned 2026 budget to secure the unit. "We were able to purchase a vehicle last year," Burrow said, "and we are looking at getting a unit. I am requesting that we can sign a purchase order with Lifeline Emergency Vehicles to purchase a new unit that would be delivered properly in the last quarter of 2027."
Commissioner Dideker moved and Commissioner Vickery seconded the motion to authorize the signature on the letter of commitment; the motion passed unanimously. Commissioners asked for confirmation on ARPA spending timing; Burrow and staff confirmed portions of the ARPA funds must be spent by the end of 2026, and the vendor and finance office have been advised of that requirement.
Burrow also reported EMS call volume is running roughly 120–130 calls above last year and that the department is researching replacement ventilators because the Revelle ventilator line is no longer supported after an acquisition by ZOLL that did not include the Revelle product line.
